Kurulus Osman

Kuruluş Osman: The Early Struggles and Triumphs

1. Osman's Dream

The series starts with an Otherworldly and spiritual dream of Osman Bey the youngest son of Ertugrul Gazi. This dream is interpreted in an archetype manner where it signifies his fate and the fact that he will grow up to be a powerful man who creates a powerful state. In his dream, Osman is shown a tree with branches stretched over the globe – it symbolizes the beginning of the Ottoman Empire; the required purpose gives Osman strength.

 2. The beginning of Crusades is the subject of the activity

With the increasing conflict, the upcoming Crusades are alluded to. The European Christians, the crusaders motivated by both religious extremism and the desire to gain some geographical dominion are a great threat to the Muslim tribes in Anatolia. Indeed, the series shows the beginnings of this extended war, which includes the battles that occur at the start of the conflict. This is the period when Osman’s military and political savoir faire are put to the supreme test and he fights bravely.

3. The Battle for Survival

The earlier episodes depict struggles in life that Osman and his tribe had to go through. Being surrounded by other tribes, crusaders, and enemies who are always plotting, the Kayı tribe has to protect itself. Osman is vital to the story as he mobilises his people, outwits the enemy and takes his troops into warfare. The ethnic persistence and valuable efforts of the identified tribe are stressed while they all aim to save their territory and traditions.

 4. Rise of a Leader

The main theme focusing on the change of the protagonist from a young warrior to a leader fills these episodes. Lancer’s bravery, wit and his strong sense of fairness makes the people love him and follow him. Meantime, Ibrahim is also increasing his power, and for the first time it becomes unclear who is more worthy to be a leader of the tribe: evolving from a good father and a simple shepherd Osman or experienced, cunning, and intelligent Ibrahim which tries to take the majority of power. In his emergence, he moves from position to position: decisive steps as well as visionary ones.

 5. Betrayal from Within

The major challenges depicted in the film are internal conflicts and betrayal among the members of the tribe and Osman. He loses the support of his close friends; those he once referred to as his brothers become his betrayers, and there are others within the tribe he does not know who bear him ill will. These betrayals create challenges for Osman to success and his capacity to lead the troops. Thus, this hero has to swim between the rocks, reveal conspiracies and defeat the betrayers to preserve the unity and order in his tribe.
