1. The Beginning of Reign
The series starts with political crisis in the Ottoman Empire that precedes the advent of Abdulhamid II to the throne. This paper will discuss that the Ottoman Empire is facing internal conflict and external aggression. The first dilemmas of Abdulhamid are to settle as the main power in the Empire and to manage the relations within the palace and the empire. His goals and his desire of bringing back the empire to the position that it deserves are clear from the onset.
2. Conspiracy and Intrigue
The first part is focused on the different convolutions that take place within the empire in terms of conspiracies. Civil wars which are commonly portrayed in most of the Islamic empire dynasties show how factions and other empire nations plan to overthrow Sultan. Abdulhamid’s intelligence department never rests to uncover such plots. They create the background for the in-depth political conflict, which became the hallmark of the TV show.
3. Reform and Resistance
Abdulhamid starts introducing changes in the empire’s governance to strengthen it. This desire of Aviz to introduce progressive changes in the military and administrative systems is met with opposition originating from reactionaries within the royal court and society. An important part of the novel is the conflict between conservatism and progress as a result of the interweaving of cultures, revealing the challenges of ruling an empire in the East/West theme.
