Internal Dissent
Revolution does not cease to occur in Abdulhamid’s rule, this is internal dissent. The residents of the palace and the military plan against him as there is competition of power within the palace. The internal conflicts are illustrated in terms of loyalty and discipline of people within the Sultan’s court, which the latter has to confront with the help of both strictness and cunning.
Personal Sacrifices
An analysis of Abdulhamid’s personal life and his sacrifices are shown. There is portrayal of how the leadership challenges affected his family, and interpersonal relationships giving humanity to his character. That encourages the Sultan, and his endurance and commitment to his role are shown, even when the character experiences a loss and adversity.
The Great Powers
Frequent interference of the Great Powers in the domestic affairs of the Ottoman Empire is observed here. These episodes involve Abdulhamid’s diplomacy to neutralize the effects of their interventions on empire’s sovereignty. The way that politics of the international world has become a cause and effect on the Ottoman Empire is depicted.
Economic Reforms
Some economic changes that were made are in an attempt to bring fiscal discipline in the management of the empire. The efforts of Abdulhamid to drive modernization of the economy and infrastructure is done to different successes and failures. All these endeavours depict the level of difficulty involved in bringing about change within a very conservative culture.
